| and we started off towards the books |
| wantalaqna nahwa al-kutubi |
|
|
|
|
| picking and choosing |
| nabhathu wa nakhtâru |
|
|
|
|
| and buying and paying |
| wa nashtari wa nadfa‘u |
|
|
|
|
| and there was pushing and jostling |
| wa kâna tâzahumun |
|
|
|
|
| therefore, right culture is the best |
| fa-ath-thaqâfatu bi-khayrin |
|
|
|
|
| and right knowledge is the best |
| wal-‘ilmu bikhayrin |
|
|
|
|
| Arabic language is of noble origin |
| al-lughatu al-Arabiyyatu asîlatun |
|
|
|
|
| It is the best of all languages |
| hiya afdalu al-lughâti |
|
|
|
|
| In it, was revealed the Qur’an |
| Bihâ nazala al-Qur’ânu |
|
|
|
|
| that is why we learn it |
| lidhâlika nata‘allamuha |
|
|
|
|
| and speak it |
| wa natahaddathu biha |
|
|
|
|
| and read its books |
| wa naqra’u kutubaha |
|
|
|
|
| and I will try to learn it |
| wa sa’uhâwilu ta‘allumaha |
|
|
|
|
| and excel in it |
| wat-tafawwuqâ fîha |
|
|
|
|
| and add it to my language (mother tongue) |
| wa idâfatiha ilâ lughatî |
|
|
|
|
| And I will teach it to my children |
| wa u`allimuhâ awlâdi |
|
|
|
|
| so that, in it, they may read the Qur'ân |
| li yaqra'û bihâ al-Qur'âna |
|
|
|
|
| The Noble Book of Allah |
| kitâbâ Allahi al-karîmi |
|
|
|
|
| I have an old car |
| ‘indî sayyâratun qadîmatun |
|
|
|
|
| It has lasted with me very long |
| ‘ammarat ma‘iya tawîlan |
|
|
|
|
| And partnered me in my life |
| wa shârakatni fî hayâti |
|
|
|
|
| It runs at times and steps |
| tamshi ahyânan wa taqifu |
|
|
|
|
| I wish it would go |
| arjûha an tasîra |
|
|
|
|
| but it neither hears nor responds |
| falâ tasma‘u walâ tujîbu |
|
